Industry: Industrial Cleaning Equipment
Primary Role: Design Lead
Team Size: 4 (Design Lead, Designer, Mobility Architect, Account Lead)
Duration: 10 Weeks
Challenge: Diversey is an industry leader in industrial scale hygiene, infection prevention, and cleaning solutions, but have dated and cumbersome processes for getting their equipment online and managers onboarded.
Solution: A easy to use mobile app for installing equipment, connecting to cloud services, and generating operational reports.

Diversey is a cleaning and hygiene products provider. Diversey came to Designit to create a mobile app that will allow Diversey technicians to onboard their new Prime pumps.
Diversey’s mission is to protect and care for people through leading hygiene, infection prevention, and cleaning solutions. Their goal is to develop and deliver innovative products, services, and technologies that save lives and protect the environment. Diversey challenged Designit to create a mobile app for onboarding their new bluetooth pump dispenser called the Prime Pump. Previous applications used to onboard the pumps were known to be complicated and overwhelming for Diversey technicians. Diversey wanted a mobile app that was effective and easy to navigate. Since this was the first time Diversey was building a mobile app, the experience was key.

In the first phase of the project, the Designit team conducted in-depth desk research and stakeholder interviews with Diversey technicians, managers, engineers, and application experts to identify key pain points in current onboarding processes. This research informed user needs to create a medium fidelity prototype for the Prime App Onboarding illustrating key technician interactions. Working closely with the Diversey team, we finalized the proposed end-to-end flow prior to validation interviews.

Our research showed that technicians needed a mobile app that was simple, step by step with optimized user experience. We presented two solutions: a wizard flow and an accordion flow. Throughout the user validation phase we realized that there were varying levels of technician experience, leading us to merge the two flows. We designed a mid-fidelity prototype with 66 screens. The Prime app has a beginner and expert path for device configuration. One for users that are learning how to configure a device and another for habitual or expert users that are more comfortable with device configuration.

In the weeks following testing, we elevated 15 screens to high fidelity. We created a style guide in Sketch for the development team which has generalized style patterns for buttons, typography, color, and illustrations.

In the following phase, the Designit team conducted 7 validation interviews to ensure the prototype met user needs. After synthesizing findings, Designit met with the Diversey team to present insights and recommendation for the optimal onboarding flow for the Prime App.
